Founded in 1988, Rhino Ark’s mission is to finance and materially support the building of an electrified fence around both the Aberdares National Park and the demarcated forestry areas of the Aberdares Conservation Area in Kenya. At the same time the charity is trying to mobilise relevant national and international stakeholders towards a joint initiative to protect and conserve the Aberdares habit, prevent any illegal exploitation of the forest habitat and promote the sustainable use of forest products for the benefit of present and future generations. The building of the fence also provides safety for the local people who are in constant threat from the wild life due to the lack of territorial boundaries.
By doing so Rhino Ark seeks to protect the interests of the Black Rhino, preserve the valuable eco-system of the Aberdares Mountain Range, conserve the resources of one of Kenya’s most important indigenous forests and resolve the conflicts that exist between humans and wildlife that co-habit the area.

The event:
Rhino Ark UK are delighted to announce that this year’s UK Rhino Charge charity 4×4 event will be held on Sunday 16th September at the traditional venue of Pippingford Park, Wych Cross, East Sussex.
The vehicle and crew navigate around the site, of which a map will be provided. Crews will need to navigate to a number of locations at which a variety of secret special tasks will have to be performed for which points are accrued towards a final total. These tasks will require a range of skills based around off-roading but with problem solving, teamwork, navigation, a bit of lateral thinking and common sense all playing an important part.
The Team:
Bushboys Inc.

We are preparing two Land cruisers. One is a standard Land cruiser series 80 with mud grip tyres, a factory fitted winch, lockers and a snorkel. The second is our project, a 1970s series 40 land cruiser hybrid built on an 80 series engine, chassis and axles. The team need to raise a minimum of £400 target for each car for the charity as this is part of the entry requirements, but require your help and support to raise as much as we can towards the Rhino Ark fund. Most importantly the event is an international event that takes place in the UK, US and Kenya every year to raise money for the Rhino Ark fund. Please use the just giving link below to help raise funds for the Rhino Ark charity. Let us do our bit for conservation! http://www.justgiving.com/bushboys

Well that was different! We don’t often go to a working quarry, so I didn’t know quite what to expect but a good day was had by all who went. The weather was kind, there was a snack van and the sections were challenging.

Well I’ve just got back from Billing. What a wash out! Last year it was the thunder storm and the tornando, this year it was the floods. Everywhere was just oozing wet with much of the centre of the stalls area under an inch or so of water. The forecast had predicted rain but perhaps not just how heavy it was going to be. I stayed home in the morning watching the sky get darker and then the heavens opened and stayed open! By about 2pm it seemed that it was now or never and so we set off and were there before 3pm.
We met a few fellow Vikings looking just as wet as we were. However, some of them were camping so goodness knows what that was like. The tents we saw were already sitting on an inch of water and the campers looking thoroughly soaked. The caravaners certainly had the best deal as at least they could be warm and dry inside their ‘vans.
Did i buy anything, well yes I did. I did a good deal on a Southdown tank guard before the show by buying 3 of them for myself and 2 other Vikings. I met the guy from Southdown outside the show on Thursday night as he had travelled up from Devon to come to the show and got the guards from him. I also bought a lift kit for the Disco. I had been thinking about this for a long time so now I’ve taken the plunge. I got a few other bits that I had been wanting especially some different rear lights so I can finally sort out the rear bumper. Land Rover made several variations of rear light clusters and in my mind did a retrograde step when they put the indicators in the bumper on the 300TDi.
I had been looking forward to the show for a long time so I was a bit disappointed that it was so much of a wash out and sorry for all of the stalls who had paid quite a bit to be there by all accounts.
Wednesday - Well the Tank Guard is on and I’ve changed the light clusters over.
Why don’t you add your views and comments about the show?
